Your Degree Programme
Key Information - CATS
At Warwick the value of each module is measured in credits called "CATS". Normally, each year every student must take modules totalling exactly 120 CATS however there are some exceptions including students taking the Maths and Philosophy courses (further details are available on the relevant course pages).
Some modules are "core" meaning that they are compulsory, some modules are "core optional" which means you must select a number from a specified list, and others are optional. Please note students in Year 1 must pass all core and core optional modules to progress into the next year of study (unless otherwise specified).
Further details about the CATS system can be found here.

Please note: Philosophy also runs joint courses with the departments of History, Global Sustainable Development and Liberal Arts. Specific details relating to those degrees can be found on those department websites.
Auditing Modules
Students on Philosophy courses may audit up to a total of 30 CATS of modules per year during their studies.
In Philosophy, auditing a module will mean that you are able to attend/view the lectures, but are not entitled to attend seminars or complete any assignments.
Please note permission to audit Philosophy modules must be sought from the Philosophy office before registering. Please also be aware that priority will always be given to those wishing to take a module for credit, and students may be asked to deregister from an audited module if a module becomes over-subscribed, even after permission has been given for them to sign up.
If you wish to audit a module from outside of the Philosophy Department, you should first seek permission from the relevant Department Office.
