Britain is beginning the job of clearing up the aftermath of flooding following Storm Babet. As the media spotlight shifts from the lives lost, to damage to homes and livelihoods, it would be easy to forget about the risk of flooding, as we have done many times before. The reality is that with a changing climate, these types of disruptive weather events will become ever more common and the damage to lives and society will only get worse. The UK urgently needs a better strategy for addressing the worst effects of climate change, and improving flood defences and infrastructure, to make our communities and country more resilient.
