Global health ethics expert Dr Sharifah Sekalala from Warwick Law School comments on the WHO's call for a moratorium on administering booster jabs of Covid-19 vaccines as a way to help ensure that doses are available in countries where few people have received their first dose.
Dr Sharifah Sekalala, from Warwick's School of Law, comments on UNICEF's call for G7 countries to avoid dumping surplus vaccines but instead begin sending jabs now to avoid wasted doses.
"The move of G7 countries to donate surplus vaccines is a welcome one but it doesn’t go far enough - it is imperative that G7 countries step up their human rights obligations and join the COVAX scheme if we are to defeat this global pandemic." Global health ethics expert Dr Sharifah Sekalala comments on the Prime Minister's plan.
"COVID-19 presents a unique challenge not seen outside of specific epidemics such as smallpox. Like with smallpox, the vaccine needs to reach everyone, and as quickly as possible", says Dr Gareth Millward.
"We need to carefully monitor immune responses in individuals infected with these variants." Professor Lawrence S. Young, Virologist and Professor of Molecular Oncology, comments on new variants of the coronavirus and whether they will be less affected by the vaccines.
