The University of Warwick Receives Five Nominations in National BUCS Awards (British Universities and Colleges Sport)

The University of Warwick and Warwick Students Union have received an impressive five nominations in the prestigious National BUCS Awards. These nominations recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of our students, coaches, volunteers, and participation programmes in the field of sports and wellbeing.

The nominations received by the University of Warwick are as follows:

Sports Person of the Year - Sam Ricketts – Badminton: Sam Ricketts, an exceptional athlete from the University of Warwick's Badminton team, has been nominated for the coveted Sports Person of the Year award. Sam's exceptional skills, dedication, and remarkable achievements in the field of badminton have set a new standard of excellence and serve as an inspiration to fellow athletes.

Coach of the Year - Nic Strange – Badminton: Nic Strange, an exemplary coach from the University of Warwick's Badminton team, has been acknowledged for his exceptional coaching skills, dedication, and contribution to the development and success of the team. His leadership and expertise have significantly impacted the performance of our student-athletes, who have become the most successful badminton team in Warwick’s history.

Student Volunteer of the Year – Max Graham: Max Graham, a remarkable student from the University of Warwick, has been nominated for his outstanding volunteer work within the sports community.

Participation Programme of the Year – Active Wellbeing Team: The University of Warwick's Active Wellbeing Team has been recognised for its exceptional efforts in promoting and enhancing student participation in sports and physical activities. The team's commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and wellbeing through its innovative programs and initiatives has garnered widespread acclaim.

Digital Engagement - One to Watch: This category acknowledges the university's commitment to digital innovation in engaging and connecting with its sports community. This category acknowledges the university and union’s commitment to digital innovation in engaging and connecting with its sports community. The University of Warwick's digital engagement efforts have been recognised as ground-breaking and transformative following a project started by Warwick Student’s Union last year.



Iain McKinney, Head of Sports Delivery, said “These nominations mean Warwick Sport has received national recognition for excellence in everything we do from our Active Wellbeing programme to our Performance programme. I’m so proud of the team’s achievements and am both looking forward to the award ceremony and seeing what we can achieve for our students next year.”

Emma Birch, Vice President Sports at Warwick Students Union said: "Warwick Students Union are incredibly pleased that Warwick has received 5 nominations for this year's national BUCS Awards. This could not have happened without the tireless dedication of the Sports partnership team and our sports clubs to student sport. We look forward to attending BUCS conference and hopefully bringing back some wins!"

The winners of the National BUCS Awards will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony on 13th July.
