University of Warwick named as one of UK’s best in the 2023 Good University Guide

The University of Warwick has further cemented its position as one of the UK’s best universities - after being ranked 9th overall by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

It continues a remarkable record for Warwick, which has featured in the Top 10 every single year since the Guide was first published in 1992.

The highly respected rankings are determined by a wide range of factors including student experience, teaching quality, pioneering research, course completion rates and graduate prospects.

Several Warwick departments ranked highly for their subject areas, including:

  • 1st in the UK in four subjects: Business, management and marketing, Creative writing, Drama, dance and cinematics, and Economics.
  • Top 5 in the UK in a further 8 subjects: Liberal Arts (2nd); Politics (2nd), Accounting and finance (3rd), Italian (3rd), Mathematics (4th), German (4th), Classics and Ancient History (5th), and Philosophy (5th).
  • Top 10 in the UK in 21 out of 29 subjects overall.

The Good University Guide, which ranks 132 universities in the UK, aims to help prospective students make an “informed choice” about their higher education options, according to the Times.

Warwick’s strong showing in the latest league table follows on from a series of impressive results in a wide range of rankings and assessments over the last year.

In the National Student Survey (NSS), Warwick scored 81.4 per cent for overall student satisfaction placing it third within the Russell Group of universities overall. Warwick was also rated as first amongst the Russell Group for Student Voice and for Assessment and Feedback, and ranked amongst the top five institutions for Academic Support, Learning Opportunities, Teaching and Organisation and Management.

And in last year’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) 92% of Warwick’s research was assessed to be world-leading or internationally excellent.

Professor Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick, said: “These rankings again underline the high quality of the student experience at Warwick. We have world class teachers, cutting-edge facilities and a highly motivated and ambitious student community. Those elements combine to create a thriving environment to learn and grow within.

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved together over the last 12 months. Being named as one of the UK’s Top 10 universities is again testament to everyone’s dedication, commitment and passion for delivering an outstanding education to our students.”
