Validation Model Case Study - Iheed (WMS)
Overview
Established in 2012, iheed delivers online medical education in partnership with the higher education sector globally. Facilitated by an in-house team of medical experts, and university partnerships, iheed works with government ministries and national healthcare organisations to meet their healthcare needs. The blended learning programme offers learning opportunities that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, across multiple platforms and devices.
Rationale
As an existing online provider of education, iheed first contacted WMS in the middle of 2017 with a request to Professor David Fitzmaurice to explore the possibility of developing a PGDip in Cardiovascular Care. Despite initial interest, nothing further developed. Following a decision to exit an existing partnership, iheed were looking to transfer their provision to another higher education institute. WMS were interested to develop the partnership based upon the fact that iheed could deliver :
- Programme content developed by a team of appropriately qualified medical staff, educationalists, instructional design and software engineering teams;
- Programme delivery through an experienced international faculty and managed by experienced educationalists. Furthermore, the roles and responsibilities to support appropriate governance are agreed;
- International student marketing using innovative digital student acquisition methodologies and deep relationships with Ministries of Health and major healthcare organisations;
- Regulatory accreditation in international markets.
Outcome
The PG Dip in Diabetes and Primary Care launched in March 2019 with 94 students recruited from the Middle East, South East Asia and Ireland. MSC in Diabetes has also been established with further opportunities being explored.
