WorldCUR-BCUR 2023 and ICUR 2023
At WorldCUR-BCUR 2023 hosted by the University of Warwick's Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL), the ethos of co-creation permeated through every aspect, including the pivotal roles of Student Directors and the dedicated Volunteer Team.
Student Directors:
The Student Directors played a central role in organizing and managing the conference. They were responsible for overseeing various aspects of the event, including:
1. Conference Theme and Content: Student Directors collaborated with faculty mentors to develop conference themes that reflect current trends and interests in undergraduate research. They also contributed to designing the conference program, selecting keynote speakers, and organizing panel discussions and workshops.
2. Abstract Review Process: Student Directors were involved in the review and selection of abstract submissions from undergraduate researchers. They worked closely with faculty mentors to ensure a fair and rigorous review process, selecting abstracts that reflected high quality research, as well as communicating this research effectively to an interdisciplinary and international audience.
3. Logistics and Planning: Student Directors were actively involved in logistical planning and worked closely with the Volunteer Team to ensure smooth operations during the conference.
4. Marketing and Promotion: Student Directors contributed to the marketing and promotion of the conference, reaching out to undergraduate researchers across different institutions to encourage participation. They utilized various channels, including social media, email campaigns, and university networks, to spread awareness about the event.
5. Student Engagement: Student Directors prioritized student engagement and participation throughout the conference. They organized networking events, social activities, and poster sessions to foster interactions among attendees and facilitate knowledge exchange.
Volunteer Team:
The Volunteer Team played a crucial role in supporting the logistics and operations of the conference. Their responsibilities included:
1. Registration and Check-in: Volunteers assisted with the registration process, welcoming attendees and providing them with conference materials. They ensured a smooth check-in experience for participants, addressing any inquiries or concerns.
2. Session Support: Volunteers helped to facilitate conference sessions, ensuring that presenters had the necessary equipment and support. They assisted with room setup, audio-visual equipment, and technical troubleshooting as needed.
3. Information Desk: Volunteers staffed an information desk where attendees could seek assistance, obtain directions, or access conference resources. They served as ambassadors for the conference, and the University, providing information about session schedules, event locations, and nearby amenities.
4. Networking Events: Volunteers assisted in organizing networking events and social activities, encouraging interactions among attendees. They facilitated icebreaker activities, group discussions, and networking opportunities to foster a sense of community and collaboration.
By actively engaging in these roles, both Student Directors and the Volunteer Team contributed to the success of the conference while embodying the principles of co-creation.
