Areas for Enhancement
Areas for Enhancement
Key areas for enhancement in teaching and learning were identified through IQR. These reflect departmental priorities for the next 12 months and aim to foster cross-institutional collaboration and knowledge sharing. The excellence and enhancement webpages offer an opportunity to connect departments by sharing outlines and case studies of excellent practices. A dropdown menu of key themes allows departments to initiate contact in areas where they are undertaking or planning enhancements.
The Inclusive EducationLink opens in a new window pages also provide further inspiration of enhancement case studies with some fantastic examples of inclusive practice across the University of Warwick - at faculty level, in academic departments and within professional services.
Interconnected Enhancement Themes
Theme 1: Assessment and Feedback
Departments are prioritising improvements in assessment practices, focusing on timely, consistent, and inclusive feedback. Initiatives include streamlined marking workflows, standardised rubrics, and innovative formats like viva voce assessments. There is also a growing emphasis on inclusive assessment design and clear guidance on the ethical use of AI in academic work, ensuring assessments remain fair, transparent, and future-ready.
Theme 2: Student Engagement and Belonging
Sustaining student engagement throughout the academic year is a shared priority. Departments are addressing attendance drop-offs, enhancing community-building efforts, and strengthening feedback loops to ensure students feel heard. Initiatives such as inclusive practices in Chemistry and creative feedback channels in Computer Science reflect a commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and active participation.
Theme 3: Curriculum and Programme Development
Curriculum reform is underway across departments to align with evolving academic and industry needs. Efforts include programme-level assessment strategies, interdisciplinary learning, and enterprise-infused modules that promote creativity and real-world application. These enhancements aim to ensure coherence, relevance, and innovation in programme design and delivery.
Theme 4: Wellbeing and Support Structures
Departments are enhancing wellbeing provision through improved personal tutoring systems, stronger collaboration with central support services, and better support for students requiring reasonable adjustments. There is also a call for a university-wide policy on mitigating circumstances to ensure fairness and clarity in academic support, particularly around self-certification processes.
Theme 5: Recruitment and Employability
To address recruitment challenges, particularly at the postgraduate level, departments are reviewing programme offerings and revitalising marketing strategies. Enhanced career support, especially for PGT students, and initiatives to help students articulate transferable skills are central to improving employability outcomes and attracting a diverse student body.
