Our History

The University of Warwick’s Chaplaincy Centre was founded in 1974 by the Christian and Jewish communities and was subsequently extended in 2006 through cooperation with the Muslim community.

In November 2011 we officially opened two recently refurbished Multi Faith Prayer Rooms; one in the Avon Building at Westwood (WA0.17) and one in the Medical school at Gibbet Hill (B0.48). These rooms are dedicated spaces that have been set aside for students and staff for quiet reflection, prayer and meditation. They are spaces for people of all faiths and of none, to share and they form an extension to the Chaplaincy provision on central campus.

Ecumenism (the working together of different Christian denominations) is a prominent feature of the Chaplaincy at the University of Warwick. There has always been a close co-operation between students and between Christian Chaplains. This has been made formal by a document, "Ecumenical Partnership in the Chaplaincy" and a Covenant that states that the Chaplaincy at the University of Warwick is an Ecumenical Partnership, signed by the institutional authorities with a vested interest in the Chaplaincy.

In more recent years, the Chaplaincy has been working to widen its provision across the university, recognising the diversity of our staff and students here. The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy delights in the many different faiths followed within the University community and is committed to ensuring that everyone is able to explore and flourish in faith and spirituality.
