Kitchens and Catering at the Chaplaincy

The University requires everyone serving and preparing food for other people to take 2 short online (moodle) training courses:

The Chaplaincy operates on the basis of 'generous hospitality'. Please ensure you keep the facilities clean, tidy and accessible for all.

Chaplaincy Centre Kitchen

The kitchen in the Chaplaincy centre is available for everyone to use during our opening hours. Students use this facility to make drinks, heat food in the microwave or cook meals in the oven. There is a limited amount of crockery and cutlery: everything must be washed, dried and put away after use. Societies can use the dishwasher after an event if they prefer but should empty it after use.

There is a box of vegetarian-only equipment in a box on top of the fridge.

Faith Societies can use our kitchen to prepare food to be eaten in the Chaplaincy.

Catering elsewhere on campus

The kitchen cannot be used to prepare food to be eaten elsewhere (e.g. an event in a different part of the University), you'll need to contact the SU for help with this.

When a Society books the Central Space it does NOT include exclusive use of the kitchen. Other students must still be allowed to access and use the kitchen.

When cooking in the kitchen, the extractor fan should be used.

Societies have access to all of the equipment in the kitchen. Societies who need extra equipment can purchase this from their Society budget, but it must be stored elsewhere (e.g. your Society Cupboard).

Fridge/Freezer

  • Do not store raw meat in our fridge - if we find raw meat in the fridge we will put it straight in the freezer, or in the bin. If you're preparing raw meat, you'll need to either bring it directly from the shop or directly from the fridge in your Halls.
  • Fresh food can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days. Label food with your name and the date you put it there. We regularly monitor food in the fridge and will dispose of anything beyond the 3-day or use-by date.
  • At the end of every term we completely empty the fridge and freezer for a deep clean, and dispose of anything left in there.

Islamic Prayer Centre Kitchen

The Islamic Prayer Centre has a large and well-equipped kitchen. It can become very busy, so it's especially important that it's kept clean, tidy and accessible to all.

If crockery and cutlery are used, these should be washing, dried and put away.

Our Muslim Chaplain will brief the Islamic Societies on the use of the kitchens.

Jewish Meeting Room Kitchens

The Jewish Meeting Room has 2 Kosher kitchens, both of which are small, but well-equipped. Access to these kitchens is for the preparation of Friday Night Dinner or other JSoc-organised events. For any other use, you must talk to the Jewish Chaplain.

At the end of every term we completely empty the fridge and freezer for a deep clean, and dispose of anything left in there.

Our Jewish Chaplain will brief JSoc execs on the use of the kitchens.
