The Capital Projects Team

The University is planning major capital project investments over the next ten years which will improve our facilities and drive towards Net Zero. We are looking for experienced construction professionals to help our Capital Projects Estates team to deliver world class facilities on our active campuses. The project types and sizes vary, but all are important to ensure we are ready for generations to come. The team are forward thinking, setting demanding building performance targets, construction techniques and high standard for quality and health & safety. The team are encouraged to learn from the best construction principles and grow as individuals to deliver the best solutions for our clients.

Our Future Projects

  • A new STEM facility:

This is the largest value construction project the university has undertaken to provide a new Chemistry, Engineering and Physics department base running until 2033.

  • A new Social Sciences facility:

In order to improve our world leading offerings a significant new build and refurbishment projects have been identified which will significantly improve our facilities.

  • New energy centres:

We already have our own district heating system and as part of our drive to net zero, these need to be modified with the associated infrastructure.

  • Refurbishment of student accommodation facilities:

To ensure our students get the best possible experience we have a rolling programme of upgrades.

These are business as usual for the team with new teaching methods and course requirements these areas are revamped regularly.

Mechanical or Electrical Design Engineers

By delivering efficient and timely Building Services Engineering Design Services, you will have the opportunity to support the delivery of the Estates Strategy and related business objectives for the University. You will provide advice and design services from inception to completion of maintenance, refurbishment and new works projects for all aspects of facilities design.

Salary: £45,585 to £54,395 per annum plus a generous benefits package including 42 days leave (including bank holidays and customary days)

With a construction related first degree or relevant technical qualification and an appropriate professional qualification, you will have extensive experience in administering construction and engineering contracts and managing projects, preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Programme Managers

We’re looking to appoint a Programme Manager who’ll play a key role in leading, directing and managing a project team within Capital Programmes.

Salary: £56,021 to £68,857 per annum plus a generous benefits package including 42 days leave (including bank holidays and customary days)

You will be responsible for the management and delivery of a key programme of capital projects and will be assigned a portfolio that will compromise of a mix of projects, from major new and exciting new builds to infrastructure and energy related projects.

With a construction related first degree or equivalent professional qualification in Surveying, Architecture, Engineering or Project Management, you will have extensive experience in managing projects and/or portfolios, preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Project Managers

Salary: £33,966 to £44,263 per annum plus a generous benefits package including 42 days leave (including bank holidays and customary days)

Under the direction of the Programme Director, you will assume responsibility for the coordination and ultimate delivery of Estates projects within defined cost, time and quality parameters.

The projects may involve installation of essential services to improve our infrastructure resilience or refurbishment of our accommodation, laboratories, teaching, offices, workshops or commercial areas.

The role is varied, but one thing we can guarantee is it will involve building strong relationships with a diverse stakeholder portfolio where you will be able to make a real contribution to the staff and student experience on campus.

We are looking for a self-starter who is passionate about construction and can really drive a number of key projects simultaneously. You will have a construction related degree or equivalent professional qualification in Surveying, Architecture, Engineering or Project Management.

You will have experience of managing projects in a multi-disciplinary environment, along with knowledge of construction contracts, procurement and construction legislation.

A working knowledge of the delivery of projects within a Higher Education Environment would be beneficial.
