Information for new Students

Welcome to the University of Warwick!

This page contains information on arrangements for post and parcels for on campus residents including the address you should use when ordering items, what happens when items arrive on campus, and where to collect items from.

How does post work on campus?

With over 7,500 residents the University campus is the size of a small town. To deal with the volumes of post and parcels that we receive we have our own sorting office on campus where all post and parcels received from Royal Mail and all other couriers are received and sorted for distribution. We deal with thousands of items each week - last year we processed almost 160,000 student parcel over the course of the year.

For small items of post such as letters and small packets which are not sent via a tracked delivery method there are postboxes in your residence hub or block where these items will be delivered. We make deliveries to these post boxes every weekday.

For larger items or tracked items we have four 'parcel collection points' located around campus, close to student residences, where your parcel will be sent for you to collect at your convenience. This is to avoid a large number of couriers trying to gain access to student accommodation and try and deliver items when you may not be in, helping to ensure you get your parcels as quickly as possible and helping to keep our campus safe and secure.

We endeavour to process all items the same day that we receive them but at peak times there may be a slight delay. Ensuring that your items are properly addressed will help us get your items to you as quickly as possible.

What address should I use when ordering items?

Please check the postroom systemLink opens in a new window to view the address you should use when ordering items. You will see the correct address from the first day of your tenancy - prior to this you will see an 'early arrival' address that you can use to send any urgent items ahead of your arrival on campus. There is more information about early arrival items here.

! Please always ensure that you include your student number as part of your address, and use the short version of your address shown on the post room system. If you are ordering from a website that won't allow you to enter a custom address, add your student number and short address to the end of your name.

Items can be delayed or sometimes even returned to sender if the address details are incomplete and we are not able to identify who the item is for.

What happens when items arrive on campus?

For postal items (letters and small packages) we normally receive two deliveries from Royal Mail each day. We sort these items depending on which residence they are for and make a delivery every day Monday-Friday. These items will be placed in your postbox. There is normally one post box per flat, and it will be located in either your Residence Hub, or your block - there are details below. You will need to use your room key to open the post box that corresponds to your flat.

For larger items, and those that are received from couriers, all parcels and logged, sorted and distributed to one of four 'parcel collection points'. These are open Monday-Saturday in term time - you can see the opening times hereLink opens in a new window.

When an item is ready to collect, you will receive an email from us telling you that it is ready. Many couriers will send you an email when an item has been delivered to our sorting office. Please do not try and collect your item at this point and wait until you receive an email from us as your item as not yet arrived at the collection point.

You can check the postroom systemLink opens in a new window to see whether you have items that are ready to collect. If an item is marked as 'in-transit' still please do not attempt to collect it, as it is still being transported from the sorting office.
