Hot Works Permit

What is Hot Works?

‘Hot works’ requiring permits are all temporary operations involving open flames or producing heat and/or sparks. This includes, but is not limited to, brazing, welding, cutting, grinding, soldering, thawing, and use of heat guns.

The permit form guides you through the requirements, but here is some additional guidance:

  • Suitable task-specific RAMS must be in place.
  • Sprinklers and hose streams must be in service/operable (where applicable).
  • Hot work equipment should be in good condition (e.g. power source, leads, torches, etc. must be inspected prior to use to ensure they are fit for purpose).
  • 2 multi-purpose fire extinguishers must be on hand in case of fire.
  • The fire watch operative must be competent in the use of fire extinguishers.
  • Continuous fire watch MUST be in place whilst work is ongoing and a minimum of 1 hour fire watch MUST be in place after completion of hot works before leaving site.

Hot works permits are valid for a maximum of 1 working day.
