Can I record a video or audio file in my blog entry?

To add audio or video to an entry you must be in the process of creating the entry. You must sign in to your blog before creating an entry.

  1. Click the Record button to open the record window. This is shown differently depending on which editor you are using:
    1. In the WYSIWYG editor, click the red "Record" icon:

    2. In the Textile editor, click the red "Record" icon next to "Record an audio or video file"

  2. The opened window will prompt you to allow the recorder access to the Microphone and Webcam on your computer. Click "Allow" to be able to create an audio or video recording.

  3. The recorder should now show a window like the one below

You can click "Audio entry" or "Video entry" depending on whether you wish to record from a webcam during the recording. If no webcam is detected, you will not be able to select a Video entry:

Audio Entries

An audio entry will record the input from a microphone if one is inserted into your computer.

Note for Mac users: Because of a peculiarity in the behaviour of the Flash plugin for some browsers on a Mac, the microphone will only record when the sound is above a certain level. This can lead to errors if the volume is set too low in the Flash settings - right clicking (or ctrl-clicking) on the recorder and increasing the microphone volume may fix these issues.

The green bar in the bottom right of the window shows the current audio level. If it is not moving much, you may wish to increase the microphone volume by right-clicking on the recorder and selecting "Settings". Click the record button in the bottom left to begin recording:

Whilst recording, the bar at the bottom of the screen will fill up, as will a timer in the bottom right. When this timer reaches the end, you will no longer be able to record further audio. To end the recording, click the Stop button in the bottom right.

When recording is completed, you can either:

  • Re-record - wipe the currently recorded data and start again
  • Replay - playback what has been recorded
  • Save - save the recording to your blog entry (note: this will not publish the entry until you click the "Publish now" button)

See Saving your recording for information on how to save the recording in your entry.

Video Entries

A video entry will take the input from a webcam on the computer as well as audio from any microphone. The green bar in the bottom right of the window shows the current audio level. If it is not satisfactory, you may wish to adjust the microphone volume by right-clicking on the recorder and selecting "Settings". The video will show a preview of the current output of your webcam. Click the record button in the bottom left to begin recording.
