How do I show my Flickr photos on my blog?
If you have a Flickr username, you can use it to display your recent photos in the sidebar of your blog by adding a new sidebar item.
Option 1: Use the Blogbuilder Flickr Photostream builder
- Go to your Sidebar admin page by clicking the "Admin" link at the top right of your blog (whilst signed in) and then clicking on the Sidebar link to see a list of items on your sidebar.
- Click on the Flickr link from the "Add an item to your sidebar" box on the right hand side
- Enter your flickr username into the box
Note: Blogbuilder uses the public Flickr API to find your Flickr NSID from your username. THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR ALL USERS. If the "Username is invalid" message appears and you are sure your username is correct, use Option 2 or Option 3 below. - Modify any extra details
For more information on what these fields mean, see How do I create a sidebar item for a remote feed? or option 2 below. - Click Finish. Your sidebar item has now been created, and you can see it on your blog:
Option 2: Insert a new "images" sidebar item
If option 1 doesn't work, you can use the RSS feed provided by Flickr to extract photos from your public profile.
- Go to your Sidebar admin page by clicking the "Admin" link at the top right of your blog (whilst signed in) and then clicking on the Sidebar link to see a list of items on your sidebar.
- Click "Custom..." from the "Add a sidebar item to your blog" box
- Select "Syndication of a remote RSS or Atom feed" from the window that pops up
- In the title field, enter the title for the sidebar item, for example "My flickr photos". You can leave this blank if you want.
- Find the remote feed URL for your flickr photos by visiting your Flickr photo page. Towards the bottom left of the page, there should be a link for a Feed of your photos:
- The URL of the "Feed" link is the URL of your photo feed. Copy this URL, and insert it into the box that asks for "Remote feed URL":
- Select the number of items you wish to show. Flickr streams generally provide your 10 most recent photos, so you can select up to that many (Blogbuilder will try to display as many as possible if there are not enough)
- Select the style of display for your photos. For a Flickr photostream you will want Images, although Titles only and Titles and descriptions will allow you to have different styles of photobox.
- Select whether you want a "More..." link or information about your photos by using the checkboxes at the bottom of the form. If you select to show feed details, it will place your Flickr "avatar" and a link to your photos at the top of the sidebar item, and if you select to show a "More..." link then it will allow users to browse more photos in your sidebar if there are more available in the feed (i.e. if you have selected to show less than 10 images)
- Click submit and your photostream is created
Option 3: Use the Flash photo-picker provided by Flickr
If you wish to use the Flash photostream that Flickr provides, you can do this with a custom sidebar item.
- Go to your Sidebar admin page by clicking the "Admin" link at the top right of your blog (whilst signed in) and then clicking on the Sidebar link to see a list of items on your sidebar.
- Click "Custom..." from the "Add a sidebar item to your blog" box
- Select "An item of Textile and/or HTML freeform text" from the window that pops up
- In the title field, enter the title for the sidebar item, for example "My flickr photos". You can leave this blank if you want.
- Create your Flickr badge
- Copy the code that Flickr gives you and paste it into the "Custom HTML or Textile" window
- Press submit and your Flickr badge is on your blog.
