Warwick researchers appointed to REF 2029 panels
We are delighted to announce that seventeen University of Warwick academics have been appointed to serve on the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2029) panels, recognising their expertise and leadership across a wide range of disciplines.
As panel members, they will provide specialist insight and assess research quality across UK higher education. REF plays a vital role in shaping the distribution of quality-related funding—currently around £2 billion annually—to support world-class research in universities.
Warwick colleagues will contribute to all four main REF panels: Medicine, Health and Life Sciences; Physical Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics; Social Sciences; and Arts and Humanities.
Congratulations to all our colleagues who have been selected.

In addition, congratulations go to Aisha Yousuf, Recruitment Coordinator at Warwick Business School, who has been appointed to the REF secretariat as Panel Secretary for Sub-panel 34: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management.
This is the first time panel members have been appointed through an open application process rather than nomination, a change designed to widen access and encourage a more inclusive pool of candidates.
Reflecting on the process, REF Director Rebecca Fairbairn commented:
“It’s been a privilege to work with the sector bodies and panel chairs on this new, open recruitment approach. I’m grateful for their insight and leadership throughout the process. It’s been inspiring to see the depth, strength, and commitment of the UK’s research community, and I’m very much looking forward to welcoming the new panel members to the team.”
