Introduction to Informing Policy
Overview
This introductory training session covers the mechanisms of influencing policy in a range of sectors including parliament, public bodies, international institutions etc. Researchers with experience of engaging with policy at the Regional, National and International levels will provide insights and answer questions.
Who should attend?
University of Warwick staff and researchers interested in learning more about policy engagement.
Workshop enables participants to:
Understand how researchers can use their research to inform policy and why this is important.
Understand mechanisms for policy influence.
Hear experiences of policy engagement from Warwick colleagues.
Learn about support available at Warwick for those interested in influencing policy with their research.

Speakers
Professor Keith Hyams
Professor Keith Hyams from the Department of Politics and International Studies, is a philosopher with an interest in interdisciplinary research on technological, environmental, health and social challenges. Keith's policy work includes advising a broad range of UK and international NGOs and government bodies, including the UK Cabinet Office and Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the City of Cape Town Government, and the UN FAO. In 2020 Keith was awarded the International Society for Environmental Ethics Andrew Light Prize for Public Philosophy for policy engagement.
Peter Dickinson
Peter Dickinson, Senior Research Fellow, Warwick Institute for Employment Research, specialises in local labour market skills and their intersection with productivity, inclusive growth, green and digital transitions. Peter has managed and directed over 150 research projects for a range of organisations including: national, regional, local and supra national governments; Third Sector Organisations; employer and provider organisations, and; trades unions.
