Vernacular Culture and Greek Texts in the Renaissance: From Florence to Europe

Dr Cecilia Sideri & Professor Paul Botley, English and Comparative Literary Studies

This €220K Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship will be led by Dr Cecilia Sideri as the researcher on the grant and supervised by Professor Paul Botley. The two-year project will conduct the first comprehensive investigation into vernacular translations of Greek texts produced in Florence in the second half of the fifteenth century.

The project will contribute to current debates about how European cultural roots and common values are built upon ancient ideas. These ideas have been regularly imitated, reconsidered, reformulated and passed on over millennia, and they are still shaping contemporary European senses of belonging.
