HKUST Summer UG Research Program 2026

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Summer UG Research Program is a research placement for undergraduate students who are passionate in doing research and would love the opportunity to work alongside HKUST faculty on research projects. This hands-on experience will allow them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, develop research skills, and contribute to meaningful work in their field of interest.

About

The HKUST Summer UG Research Program lasts 8 weeks and students will be enrolled in a 3-credit# HKUST research course. You'll work on a HKUST research project under the mentorship of the research project supervisor and immerse in the local Hong Kong culture through orientation and cultural activities throughout the program. End-of-program event for presentation and discussion of your research work. All research work, reports and presentations conducted in English.

Eligibility

    • Full-time undergraduate student
    • Have completed at least 2 years of study by the start of this program
    • Exceptional academic record with demonstrated potential and passion in research
      • Have attained a cumulative grade average (CGA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
    • Students must be age 18 or above by the start of the HKUST Summer UG Research Program

    Key dates

    The 8 week experience runs from 15 June 7 August 2026

    • Residential Period is 11 June – 9 August 2026

    Cost

    • Program Fee: €1,670
    • Tuition Fee: €2,140

    If you do not require a Hong Kong student visa, the corresponding fee will be removed from your charges

    How do I apply?

    In order to be nominated the HKUST Summer Research Program 2026, please complete the following steps by noon (UK time) on Monday 19 January 2026

    Step 1

    Review the opportunity and consider the dates and costs required

    Source a referee from your academic department and ensure that they can provide a reference by the deadline

    Step 2

    Complete our online application form before the deadline noon on Monday 19 January 2026

    Step 3*

    Arrange for your referee to complete an online reference (link below) for you before noon on Monday 19 January 2026

    This should be someone from your academic department

    We will confirm which students have been successful in being nominated

    Next steps

    We will notify all applicants of the outcome by 17:00 Monday 2 February 2026

    • If you are selected we will formally nominate you to HKUST
    • You will then be contacted by HKUST who will provide details on their application procedures
      • Successful applicants are required to accept the offer by settling the fees before the payment deadline as stated on the offer letter

    * It is your responsibility to contact your referee and ensure your reference is completed in time, we will not be able to confirm receipt of your reference - you should ask your referee to confirm with you that they have submitted this.

    #Please note that normally it is not possible for Warwick students to receive credit transfers from Summer programmes unless your home department has advertised an opportunity with such a possibility. It is up to your home department to agree to credit transfers so you will need to check this with them directly
