What is the I-Week all about?
The course consists of 5 interactive days of presentations, discussions and workshops during which students are exposed to international academics, sustainability experts and CEOs.
The programme received the UAntwerp Education Award for innovation and internationalisation.
Every year, University of Antwerp welcome a very diverse group of speakers and students. The 2025 edition welcomed 559 participants from 46 different nationalities and 6 different continents. Working together with 27 partner universities. It is the flagship programme of University of Antwerp's internationalisation-at-home measures and an obligatory event for all their third year bachelor students and a great way for participants to have an international experience during their studies, even those participating online.
Theme of sustainability:
- I-Week centres on the theme of sustainability, which refers to the long-term viability of systems through balanced interactions with other subsystems and the equitable distribution of resources and opportunities. Sustainability can be examined from multiple perspectives:
- Geographical (e.g., by country, continent, the EU, ASEAN)
- Industrial (e.g., by sector or type of organization)
- Functional (e.g., marketing, finance, production, strategy)
- Throughout the week, these various contexts will be explored through lectures and workshops. Plenary sessions will feature international academics and business leaders who will present global sustainability challenges and demonstrate how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world scenarios
-
During I-Week students will engage in interactive lectures led by international professors and business professionals, and collaborate closely in international student teams. In small (mostly hybrid) groups of around six, participants will dive deeper into specific themes or contexts, meeting throughout the week. A group project will provide hands-on experience in understanding how international organizations develop and implement sustainability strategies. An interdisciplinary day challenges students to solve complex problems alongside peers from other faculties
A great event for students to:
- Interact with professionals and academics about economic, ecological and ethical sustainability
- Listen to an interdisciplinary debate and tackle a “wicked” problem together with students from other faculties
- Analyse a current sustainability issue through group work with other international students
- Create and give a presentation about the analysed issue
- Meet students from all around the world
- Improve their language and intercultural skills
