Student Stories
Whether it’s studying at an international summer school or working, researching or volunteering with international organisations during their summer vacation, students tell us about their experiences across the world.

I really loved my time on the Travelteer programme in Sri Lanka. Over the course of 2 weeks, I was able to involve myself in a range of activities at the sanctuary, on the local beaches and in the rainforest. Coming from a coastal town in Cornwall, I’ve always been passionate about marine conservation and so I was incredibly lucky to get the opportunity to work on projects internationally. The primary focuses were turtle rehabilitation and cleanup, and it was lovely to be able to be so involved and hands on with both aspects - even releasing a couple of turtles during my time there.
I would highly recommend doing an experience like this, especially for girls who are keen to start travelling more independently as it’s a really helpful lead in to solo travel. You have a lot of independence to explore the country and do pretty much whatever interests you, but with the reassurance that there are people around to fall back on.

I believed that an extended stay would offer a richer and more authentic perspective than a brief visit, enabling me to immerse myself in the local culture. This experience provided the chance to engage with locals, understand their daily lives, and gain insights into their views on Singapore.
Each day, I would spend one to two hours studying in the library, focusing on class assignments or pre-recorded lectures. I attended one or two classes daily, each lasting around four hours. Beyond my academic commitments, I took every opportunity to explore the country and try new foods. For instance, if I had an afternoon class, I would study in the morning, attend the class in the afternoon, and then spend the evening with friends and exploring the city. Every day was filled with excitement and joy.
Forming new friendships was one of the most significant aspects of this experience. I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, which allowed me to learn about different cultures and perspectives.

This summer school was probably the most fun and enriching experience I have had in university so far. It was my first time travelling solo as well and I have built more self-trust and self-esteem throughout my week in Barcelona.

Learning Chinese business practices through both lectures and company visits, expanded my learning – preparing me for future work in the global job market – and showed me how the Chinese economy is ready to lead the world into the future. As part of the summer school we visited three companies, two of which we were given personal tours around the factories by either the CEO or senior managers of the company.

I never thought I would have had the opportunity to visit China when I first started university - I am so grateful and honoured to have undertaken this experience, which has ultimately cemented my dream to work within East Asia. The funding offered by the university allowed me to experience China to its fullest, by lessening financial worries so that I could truly enjoy every moment of the experience. I am very grateful to the university for providing this aid to me.

I wanted to reach out to you to let you know that as a result of attending the University of Ningbo's summer school last summer, I have been offered a job with one of the companies I met whilst over there.
I'm so very pleased with the job opportunity I have been offered, and wanted to express my gratitude for the support that the Student Mobility team provided for me. I never would have undertaken the summer school without Warwick, and been given this job opportunity - thank you.
