Disabled Parking Updates
In response to a number of the issues raised in the recent survey on disabled parking, we've made a few updates to our disable parking provision. Some of these measures have already taken place, while others are in progress:
Gibbet Hill campus
In response to increased demand, we have recently added 3 extra disabled parking bays to Gibbet Hill campus. Unfortunately we will need to take one of these out of action for 3 weeks from Monday 27 June while we create the new Medical School entrance. We scheduled the works for the end of term to minimise any inconvenience caused.
Westwood campus
2 extra disabled bays to car park 14 on Westwood campus to support staff moves.
Lakeside Village
Following a consultation with residents of the Lakeside Village area, we’ve removed 2 disabled parking bays to make room for a new food and drink outlet, due to start operating later in the year.
Central campus
We’re currently working to enhance the area at the back of the Social Sciences building. The re-designed area will have 1 extra disabled bay very close to the building entrance. We believe that the 2 disabled bays that are further away won’t be used after this – they’re on a slope, further from the building and less friendly to wheelchair users. We’ll monitor their use, and, if they’re not used, remove them at a later date.
As part of the work on the new Teaching and Learning Building, we’ll create 3 extra disabled parking spaces at the top of Health Centre Road. These should be available in the autumn term.
New multi-storey car park
The new multi-storey car park, currently in progress off Academic Loop Road, will not have any disabled bays for blue badge holders given its distance from campus buildings. It will, however, have wider parking spaces than the standard for the rest of campus – something several people who weren’t blue badge or D-permit holders flagged up in the disabled parking survey.
