We have a long-established global reputation in the field for both our research and our commitment to an outstanding student experience. Our performance in national tables is exemplary – we are consistently ranked in the UK top ten – and we received a 92% satisfaction result for Teaching in the National Student Survey 2016.
We are a lively and forward-thinking department with a strong community ethos. You will be guided by some of the country’s leading film and television scholars and helped to combine your academic and creative passions with traditional methods of learning and innovative forms of digital media production. Through flexible small-group teaching, you will benefit from closer interaction and more meaningful, in-depth discussions with our staff. We offer tailored teaching options in screenwriting and digital film criticism, and you may have the opportunity to apply to study a specialist Year 3 module in Film Production, through a unique teaching partnership with the London Film School.
You will study in a purpose-built £3.5m building, where you will have access to an outstanding range of intellectual and creative facilities, including four screening theatres served by 35mm and digital high-definition projection. Your studies will be supported by an extensive collection of Film Studies resources, which includes over 20,000 films, one of the best-stocked university collections in the country.
