Pint of Science 2023

Get involved with #pint23!

Pint of Science is back for another exciting festival in 2023! These events will be taking place from 22-24th May 2023 in over 150 cities across the world, including Coventry and Warwickshire. We are recruiting our Pint of Science Team for this year, and are looking for Speakers, Event Managers, MCs/Hosts, Photographers and more!

Pint of Science is an opportunity for researchers to share and explain their latest findings to the public in the comfort of a pub, café, community hall, outdoor space or public venue. These are really fun activities designed to engage the public and share information with those who might not usually get to hear about these topics.

You can find out more about Pint of Science on their websiteLink opens in a new window.

Why do it?

People are interested in how the world works There’s also a gap in knowledge about what scientists actually do and this leads to mistrust. For scientists it’s a platform to share their research but also to gain different perspectives. For attendees it’s an opportunity to hear about what’s happening and directly question people who are responsible for research and the future of science.

What does it involve?

We are looking for presenters who are passionate about science and have an engaging story to tell, and a team who can help to create an exciting and welcoming event. Below are a few ideas of the key subjects we are looking to cover this year:

We encourage participation from all staff and students! We are here to support you and offer guidance however you would like to be involved, and will work with you throughout the process. You will receive more detail once you sign up, but a few things to keep in mind:

  • It will be hosted in a venue outside the university
  • It will take place in the evening
  • Talks should be aimed at a non specialist audience (no acronyms or jargon)
  • Talks/ activities should be no longer than 20 to 30 minutes
  • Use interactive demonstrations or bring something from the lab where possible
  • Make it fun, interactive and engaging

Please note that this year we are returning to an in person format, rather than online events.
