Science on the Hill - Catch up if you missed our last event

On Tuesday evening we (WIE!) ran the latest online Science on the Hill public event 'New Scientists: New Research' with the SOTH team from WMS, SLS and QBP. Once again we used the Streamyard online studio which produced the livestream on our Warwick Youtube channel. Hosted by our very own Honorary Fellow Professor Kevin Moffat, the speakers included Dr Erin Greaves from Warwick Medical School and Dr Ellie Jameson and Emily Hill from the School of Life Sciences.

Instead of focussing on a particular area of science or medicine, we wanted to enthuse and inspire viewers with a look at the life of early career scientists as well as their fascinating research areas. Erin’s research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis, while Ellie takes a microscopic look at phages and how they can play a role in fighting bacterial infections. Current PhD student Emily is making progress in understanding how some proteins affect neural function in conditions like Parkinson’s Disease. They gave a good representation of what it takes at every stage to follow your passion for your subject. It’s a great learning experience to do online engagement in this way, working with us, the SOTH team and fellow researchers, getting ‘training on the job’ as we went through the process, with everyone saying they really enjoyed it! We had 85 viewers on the night and over 270 views on Youtube since then. Evaluation now underway!

You can access the recording of this event directly on YouTube . If you do get chance to watch the talks and as part of our ongoing effort to make sure that these public events continue to be interesting and valuable, we would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing our online evaluation form .
