Profile

Background

I completed a two year Master’s program at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), graduating in October 2006. Many of my courses and research activities in recent years were in the field of electronics and ultrasonics. For instance, my master thesis consisted in the implementation of a trigger circuit for a low energy solid-state laser, and my undergraduate thesis consisted in the construction of an instrument for velocity measurements using ultrasound. Detailed information about my academic record and my research or other experience can be seen in my CV page.

From 2001 to 2006 I collaborated at the Engineering Institute (IINGEN), one of the research centres of the UNAM. During my time there I participated in diverse projects and was in touch with researchers from; the Centre of Applied Sciences and Technological Development (UNAM), the Centre of Investigation in Applied Science and Advanced Technology (National Polytechnic Institute, IPN) and the Centre of Investigation in Optics (Research Centre from the National Council for Science and Technology, CONACYT). I believe that the richness of these experiences, combined with my fascination with technology helped me to confirm my vocation to carry out research that cooperates in the development of new knowledge.

On this note, I was looking to continue developing my understanding and knowledge in ultrasonics so I decided to pursue a PhD. From the very beginning it was clear to me that the University of Warwick’s postgraduate program was one of the best in the world with strong orientation towards research, especially in its Department of Physics. The diversity of the research developed in the Ultrasonics group was of particular relevance to me. Fortunately, I was offered a place in this research group when applied.

At this point, I am happily reaching my goals from different perspectives. In one hand I am interacting and learning from people that have similar interests; in the other hand, it is providing me with the experience and necessary motivation to develop original research of exceptional quality.
