Bimillenium of Augustus' Death Colloquium

Alison Cooley is presenting a paper, 'The invention of the age of Augustus', in Vienna as part of an international conference focusing upon the death of the emperor Augustus 2000 years ago. 24-26 September 2014.


New publication for the bimillenium of Augustus' death

Alison Cooley has just published an article, 'Die letzten Tage des Augustus', as part of an issue of the popular German archaeological magzaine, Antike Welt, focused upon the bimillenium of the death of Augustus in August AD 14.


New vacancies at Warwick

  • PhD studentship: A third century crisis? The composition and metallurgy of Roman silver coinage, Septimius Severus to Valerian and Gallienus: includes fees and maintenance at RCUK level (EU and Home students). Deadline for applications is 25 August 2014.
  • Teaching Fellow in Roman Imperial History: 10-month fixed term from 1st Sept 2014. Deadline for applications is 12 August 2014.

Taught MA funding

Congratulations to Kathryn Thompson and Simon Collier on their success in gaining Departmental/HEFCE match-funded fees and stipend grants to support postgraduate study. From September 2014, Kathryn will be studying the Taught Masters in Ancient Visual and Material Culture and Simon the Taught Masters in the Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Rome.


Dr Michael Scott - new President of Lytham St Annes Classical Association branch

Warwick Classics Assistant Professor Dr Michael Scott is to become President of the newly formed Lytham St Annes branch of the Classical Association, one of the UKs biggest institutions for the promotion of Classics. The branch has been formed by local sixth former Katrina Kelly. At the age of 17, she is the youngest person ever to take the initiative to form a branch of the Classical Association since its inception in 1903.
