There will be two hours of lectures a week for all. For those reading the texts in Latin there will be a further weekly one-hour text class.

Generally the first hour each week will be a lecture introducing new material; the second will usually have a class/seminar format with topics discussed in the light of reading and questions distributed beforehand. However this basic scheme will vary occasionally, according to the nature of topics presented.

For a subject of this range, not all the material can be presented in lectures and classes. Students should therefore expect to do the prescribed reading and to have thought sufficiently about the issues to make constructive oral contributions.
