Communication

Current circumstances mean that most office hour appointments will be online (either via email or Microsoft Teams) but you may request a face to face appointment if you wish.

Office Hours

The atmosphere in the Department is friendly and informal and it is usually very easy to contact individual members of staff. All academic staff post their ‘office hours’ on their staff webpages, specifying two regular periods per week when they will be available to meet with students. One of these periods will be online and the other face to face. You can also set up appointments at other times by emailing them.

Departmental Communications

The Department sends out regular communications to keep you in touch with matters affecting your study, signposting support and highlighting opportunities.

There is also a Microsoft Teams History Student Community Space where you will find channels where you can raise any issues or concerns with your SSLC course reps, chat to other students in the department and on your course, hear of any new opportunities in the department, receive information on things happening in Careers, Wellbeing and much more!

We will send various information that are relevant to you via Microsoft Teams channel History PG Common Room. Here, you can find the channel Online Research Sources - Archive where we post relevant information regarding materials, sources, archives, etc.

Students should note that the University & department will ONLY contact you via your University e-mail address. Please be sure to check your e-mails on a regular basis so that you do not miss any important communications. To update your address please do so via the student record online page. Sign in to this page as usual and select ‘Student Records’ from the ‘My Data’ link on the left-hand menu.

Post

Personal post should NOT be sent to the department but to your term-time address. Items posted to the department will be returned to the sender.

Messages may be left for staff in the pigeonholes, which are located in the mailroom (H340) on the Third Floor of the Humanities Building. Your postgraduate student pigeonholes are also located on the Third Floor. Please check your pigeonhole regularly, as communications from administrative staff may be left here for you.
