Research
The Warwick University History Department was ranked first in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) for the proportion of world-leading research activity (4*) in the Department. We have an outstanding reputation as practitioners of social and cultural history. Inspired by an expansive and inclusive vision of historical research, our work draws on literature, material and visual culture and notions of space, as well as a multilingual array of written sources spanning five centuries.
Teaching in the Department is significantly influenced by the research work of the Department’s academic staff, particularly in the optional modules of the undergraduate and MA taught degrees. This approach of research-led teaching guarantees that students are engaged with the very latest historical research.
The Department also has a strong postdoctoral research community, including in recent years Leverhulme Early Career Fellows, Marie Curie Research Scholars, Wellcome Trust Research Fellows, British Academy Research Fellows, SSHRCC Research Fellows, CARA Research Mobility Fellows, and grant-funded Research Assistants.
