You are warmly invited to this end-of-year celebratory event on the longest day! This student-led workshop is sponsored by Innovation 2022,and jointly supported by the Chinese Team at the Language Centre and the Translation and Transcultural Studies, SMLC.
Prof. Zinan YAN, from National Language Promotion Foundation in BNU (北京师范大学国家语言文字推广基地) will take language learners at all levels to translate Classical Chinese Poems from scratch and understand fundamental issues in Sinological Translation, learn about main approaches to translating classical Chinese poetry. Come to gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture from a fresh perspective.
Prof. YAN is Associate Professor in Traditional Chinese Literature at the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Beijing Normal University. After gaining his MA and PhD in Sinology from SOAS, he worked as a Teaching Fellow at SOAS from 2011 to 2013 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford from 2017 to 2018. His research interests focus on poetry translation, especially Ming dynasty poetry and poetics, as well as Qing dynasty court literature and political culture.
