Connecting Cultures GRP welcomes eminent translation scholars Karen van Dyck and Lawrence Venuti (Oct 24-27)

The Connecting Cultures Global Research Priority is pleased to be welcoming two distinguished academic visitors to Warwick campus between October 24 and 27: Professor Karen van Dyck, Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Modern Greek Language and Literature at Columbia University, and Professor Lawrence Venuti, Professor of English at Temple University.

“Migration, Translingualism, Translation”, a lecture by Professor Karen van Dyck
Tuesday 24 October, 5 to 6.30 p.m. Room: A0.28 Millburn House (in Film and TV Studies, located on the Kirby Corner Road side of the Millburn House complex), followed by drinks.
 
“Translating Proverbs: The Instrumentalism of Conventional Wisdom”, a lecture by Professor Lawrence Venuti

Translation Matters: The Current State of Translation Studies. A professorial roundtable with Professor Lawrence Venuti (Temple), Emeritus Professor Jean Boase-Beier (UEA), Professor Michelle Bolduc (Exeter) and Professor Loredana Polezzi (Cardiff).

Editing Austerity Measures: The New Greek Poetry
Tuesday 24 October, 1 to 3 p.m. Room: F25A Millburn House (1st floor, access via the main entrance on Millburn Hill Road)
Karen van Dyck will lead a seminar with a workshop element in which she will discuss the challenges of her role as editor of the recent anthology of translated poetry Austerity Measures: The New Greek Poetry. Research forum for doctoral and postdoctoral students

This forum is for doctoral and postdoctoral students whose projects have a translation angle and who would benefit from discussing their projects with Professors Venuti and van Dyck. Please e-mail me if you would like to present your work at this forum.
