Mother Tongue Other Tongue

The aim of the Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition is to celebrate languages, culture and language-learning, giving secondary school students the opportunity to practise and improve their foreign language skills (any language they are learning in school) and/or appreciate and celebrate their heritage, using poetry.

Year 12 Languages Taster day

The aim of this day is for students to gain an insight into what it is like to study languages at university by attending specially developed sessions run by lecturers in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures.

Spelling Bee

Year 7 pupils attend the regional final of the national spelling bee competition.

Here you’ll find a selection of short stories created by Warwick University Modern Languages students, inspired from trips they’ve made across the world and their feelings and experiences.

This event is part of the outreach and widening participation work delivered to local schools by the School of Modern Languages and Cultures through the Routes into Languages network. This event will challenge pupils in Y9 to design their own holiday accommodation experience in a foreign country (French, Spanish or German speaking).

SMLC Christmas Card Competition winners

Fourteen schools participated in our Routes Into languages Christmas Card Competition and we were delighted to receive such a range of entries in 9 different languages!

European Day of Languages: Languages of Peace

We are launching a poster competition for schools to celebrate The European Day of Languages 26th September 2024 on the theme of “Languages for peace” .

Year 11 Languages Discovery Day

This new event is for students in Year 11 and will be a forum to explore the academic skills, personal enrichment and careers opportunities that the study of languages can provide.
