Obituary: Prof. Brian Rigby (French Studies)
French Studies at Warwick have been sad to learn of the death of Professor Brian Rigby. Brian worked at Warwick from the late 1960s until 1992, when he became Professor of French at the University of Hull. A specialist in nineteenth- and twentieth-century French and English cultural studies, Brian was the founding editor of the journal French Cultural Studies. Emerita Professor Linda Paterson remembers Brian as a reliable, supportive and lively colleague, quick in repartee, always with his finger on the pulse and a great sense of humour. He had strong views, and loved debate but was also always very concerned for fairness to students and for their welfare.
