Summer Term Events Roundup

This Summer Term, students in Film & TV Studies have been busy with extra activities alongside their studies.

Archive Study Day

In May, a group of students and staff visited the Modern Records Centre on campus to find out about archives and look at material relating to film and television history. Some highlights included a diary from the 1930s which recorded trips to the cinema and an unmade script for Doctor Who! We also got a tour behind the scenes to see where documents are kept and digitised. Thanks very much to the MRC archivists for showing us around!

Writing the History of Film & TV Studies at Warwick

In June, students helped to research the history of Film & TV Studies at Warwick, starting with an attempt to launch a Film Studies MA degree back in the 1960s. We also learned about the early film courses that were taught at Warwick in 1973 by our first Film Studies lecturer. We’re hoping to share some of what we found on our website soon.

Alumni Event

Also in June, we were delighted to welcome back five recent Warwick alumni to talk about life after graduation and starting out on their careers. Thanks to Lauren Nwenwu, Wema Mumma, Joseph Agunbiade, Anfisa Semenova and Maddie Moss-Williams for sharing your experiences and telling us about what fantastic work you’re all doing!

Teaching Labs

Finally, five of our current students and PhD researchers took part in our new ‘Teaching Lab’ scheme this term, organising and running their own classes. The topics ranged from animals in animation to video game arcades, queer monsters, digital image compression and theories of cinematic excess. Well done to Maddelena Parlato, Eric Voicu, Ethan Jones, Charlie Byfield and Daedula Grabham for running such fantastic, creative sessions!
