Teaching & Learning

  • Our Beyond Science module contains dedicated Intercultural Competence content and expert podcasts on working in diverse teams.
  • Our ED&I Toolkit was designed to help address relevant Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) aspects in teaching design and delivery, to acknowledge the diversity of our student body and to use teaching practices that are as inclusive as possible.
  • We trained our peer mentors in simple professional coaching techniques, to support all students to develop their growth mindset.
  • Warwick Black Chemistry Society Careers & Alumni Evening (Feb 2024). An event providing advice and guidance to BAME students entering the workplace.

Projects

  • ‘British-Asian Chemistry Student Experience and Awarding Gaps in UK Higher Education’ -a multi-institution RSC-funded project.

Research

Priorities for 2023/24

Community

  • Women in Chemistry Roundtable Event (March 2024). An inspiring panel discussion with Warwick Chemistry academics and alumni. Speakers were: Dani Pearson (Assistant Professor - Teaching); Rebecca Austin (HR Professional - Alumni); Claire Holman (Director of Air Pollution Services - Alumni); Fabienne Bachtiger (Computational Chemist - Alumni); Diane Turner (Senior Consultant - Alumni); Thea Mangels (Technical Services Manager) and Ann Dixon (Reader of Chemistry).

Priorities for 2023/24

  • To develop our departmental vision, values and priorities in consultation with staff.

  • To cultivate inclusivity and support diversity at every stage of our recruitment process, ensuring we are removing the barriers to attracting talent.
  • To create an environment where we can all thrive and where there are opportunities for all to grow.
  • Focus on staff wellbeing and improving work/life balance.
