"Ultrafast Spectroscopy: Shining Light on Chemistry’s Problems"
A Departmental Seminar
L4, 13:00 Wednesday 10 December 2025
Join us for departmental seminar as RSC 2025 Technical Excellence Prize winner, Dr Jack Woolley, talks on the work of WCUS.
Photochemical processes such as energy transfer, photoisomerisation, and electron transfer underpin a wide range of natural and artificial phenomena. Understanding these reactions requires observing molecular motion on its native timescale — typically femtoseconds (10⁻¹⁵ s). To achieve this, we employ ultrafast laser systems and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to monitor chemical dynamics following photoexcitation. In this talk, I will introduce the advanced experimental capabilities available at the Warwick Centre for Ultrafast Spectroscopy, and showcase recent research that reveals the fundamental molecular processes driving modern functional materials.
