Organic heteroepitaxy demonstrated by the Jones group in Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys.
The growth and characterisation of a non-planar phthalocyanine / planar phthalocyanine bilayer on an Au (111) surface is investigated using scanning tunnelling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction. The presence of (1x1) epitaxial order is confirmed suggesting significant inter-molecular bonding between layers. This result demonstrates the ability to produce bilayer films with unprecedented structural order which may have huge implications for active layer growth in organic electronic devices.
