Phil Diggle
I completed the masters component for the DST CDT in 2015. Following this, I completed a PhD in Physics at the University of Warwick under the supervision of Professor Mark Newton, based in the EPR and Diamond Research Group at Millburn House. Finally, a thank you goes out to my PhD sponsors, EPSRC and GIA for allowing me the opportunity to conduct exciting research.
Teaching and Demonstrating
I was involved in the demonstration of the DST CDT labs at Warwick. This involved working with the DST CDT current MSc cohort as part of modules 2, 3 and 8. The practicals involved the use of the Raman Microscopes, X-ray diffractometers, EPR spectrometers, FTIR and UV-Vis spectrometers as well as confocal microscopy; all of which look at material and defect properties of diamond.
Previously, I have demonstrated in the Microprocessors lab, which students take in the second year undergraduate physics degree. Students utilise LabVIEW in order to establish PID control for their nodding donkey (an arm pivoted close to one end, with a sliding mass at the other end) within a short amount of time.
Prizes
Outstanding student presentation - New Diamond and Nano Carbon 2018 conference.
Best conference poster award (Tuesday session) - New Diamond and Nano Carbon 2017 conference.
