World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance held on 22nd March to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater and promote the sustainable management of water resources. Established in 1993, it highlights urgent global water issues, such as access to clean water, sanitation, and the effects of climate change on water systems. Each year, it focuses on a specific theme—2025’s theme is glacier preservation, emphasizing the critical role glaciers play in maintaining freshwater supplies. The day serves as a global platform for discussions, policy initiatives, and innovations aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All.
