Network security update for students

Starting from 30 July 2025, the University is making a change to how student devices connect to the internet on campus. This is to help keep everyone safer online.

What’s changing?

When you connect to the University network, you must use the University’s network access settings or DNS. If your device is using other settings—like Google DNS or Cloudflare, it may not work or connect properly on campus.

  • If your device is already set to get internet settings automatically (which most are), you don’t need to do anything.
  • If you’re using a university-managed laptop or computer, you're all set – no action is needed.

  • But if you’ve changed your settings to use a custom DNS (like Google or Cloudflare), you’ll need to switch back to automatic settings, and you can do this by following the instructions linked below.

  • If you don’t update your settings to automatic, you won't be able to use some university services such as:
    • Internet access
    • Log into the online library
    • Print on campus
    • Use some University software

Emergency and Support Links

For emergencies or urgent safety concerns, please contact the University 24-hour Community Safety line: +44 (0)2476 522083. Community Safety operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In the event of an emergency on campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, call 22222 from an internal telephone. If you are on campus and you use a mobile to call for an emergency service (999), you should also then call 024 76 5 22222. This alerts the University Community Safety team and will enable the emergency vehicle to be speedily escorted to where it is required on the campus.

If you're struggling but it's not an emergency, please contact Wellbeing.

If you are a parent or guardian there is more information on what to do if you have concerns: warwick.ac.uk/services/wss/parents/#concern.
