Head of Mechanical Stream Receives European Award

Professor Derek Chetwynd was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by the President of the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) during plenary session of its Annual Conference and General Meeting in Como, Italy, May 23-26, 2011. It is only the second time that the Society has made such an award.

Derek retired from the Council of euspen at the AGM, after serving four successive periods of office and chairing its Publications Committee for the past 11 years. He is also European Editor-in-Chief for Precision Engineering, the Journal of the International Societies for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology. He notes, “While naturally proud of my major contributions to the field over the years, I was pleased that in a few kind words at the presentation, Dr Henny Spaan (President) emphasized the wish to recognize also the importance of less publicly visible work in support of the rapid growth and success of the Society.”

Professor Chetwynd is leader of the Mechanical discipline stream at the University of Warwick’s School of Engineering.
