Warwick Power Electronics Group in EPSRC Grant Success
The Warwick Power Electronics research group has had recent funding success with an EPSRC centre of power electronics research grant to investigate the feasibility of silicon carbide MOSFETs in pressure contact power modules. The project will be led by Dr Layi Alatise as lead investigator with Prof. Li Ran and Prof. Phil Mawby as co-investigators. Other academic project partners include the Universities of Nottingham, Imperial College and Greenwich University.
The objective will be to push the reliability of silicon carbide based power electronics into new frontiers by developing a pressure contact based power module like that shown in the accompanying picture. This project is held in conjunction with already funded EPSRC grants in the underpinning power electronics devices theme (EP/L007010/1), components theme (EP/K034804/1) and a first grant in power electronics reliability research (EP/K008161/1). The project will increase the research team's capacity by enabling the funding of a post-doctoral research fellow and a PhD student.
