iGEM interdisciplinary undergraduate research competition
iGEM is an international competition that fosters scientific research across difference facetes of synthetic biology, bio-engineering and biotechnology. Teams are made up of undergraduate students from a number of disciplines – typically engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and biology. As a team you'll design their own project, implement it during the summer, and travel to Paris to present your results at the iGEM Jamboree. Previous Warwick teams have won gold medals and been nominate for "Best Software Engineering". You can find out more about the iGEM initiative at Warwick here.
Research Experience Opportunities
We are happy to support undergraduate and postgraduate students widen their interdisciplinary research experience during degree projects or the summer vacation.
Funding for undergraduate research experience opportunities
All Warwick Undergraduates are eligible for the Undergraduate Research Support Scheme. This scheme offers scholarships of up to £1,000 to contributes to living expenses and other associated costs whilst carrying out an interdisciplinary research project (6-10 weeks) over the summer. Undergraduates within Warwick’s School of Engineering may also be eligible for the School of Engineering URSS Prize (supplemental funding to a successful URSS application) or a School of Engineering UG Research Internship (up to £1,600 to contribute to living expenses and other costs). All undergraduate students can apply for an MIBTP Research Experience Placement Scholarship. This scheme provides up to £3,000 of funding for 6 weeks to support a student to undertake research first-hand and help them assess their aptitude for a research career.
