Biography

Dr. Jiaqi Yan is an Assistant Professor in Power Electronics within the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick. His research lies at the intersection of physics and electrical engineering, focusing on pushing the boundaries of next-generation wide bandgap (WBG) power conversion technologies to support global low-carbon sustainability and Net-Zero commitments.

Prior to joining Warwick in June 2026, Dr. Yan was a Senior Research Associate in high-speed power electronics at the University of Bristol (2021-2023) and a Research Associate in high-power space electric propulsion at Beihang University (2021-2023). He received his BEng and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2015 and 2021, respectively, and was recognized as the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate of Shaanxi Province (Top 1%). During his doctoral studies, he also conducted research in pulsed power as a visiting PhD student at Imperial College London.

Research Interests

Dr. Yan’s research interest is rooted in applying advanced power conversion topologies and instrumentation to solve hard physical challenges in various applications. His current core research themes include:

1. High voltage & high frequency power devices and converters.

2. High bandwidth sensing and instrumentation.

3. Power electronics in extreme conditions.
