Biography

Stana rejoined the University of Warwick in 2023, after working for five years at the University of Exeter. Before Warwick, she also worked at the University of Sheffield and the University of Belgrade.

Stana is a member of School's Education Committee and University's Finance and General Purposes CommitteeLink opens in a new window. She is an Academic Integrity Manager for the School of Engineering.

Research Interests

Prof. Živanović's research interests are in modelling human-induced dynamic loading within civil infrastructure, human-structure interactions, human response to vibration and other stimuli and vibration performance of lightweight structures (e.g. fibre-reinforced polymer, FRP, composite, aluminium and other structures). Reconciling demands for both vibration serviceable and sustainable structures is an area of growing interest. In collaboration with biomechanics and human motion scientists, Stana is investigating kinematics, kinetics and control of walking and other forms of human locomotion in the presence of vibration perturbations. For this purpose, she built a lively, 20m long, all-FRP footbridge structure. She is also interested in channeling her research findings into design recommendations for structural engineers.

Stana guest-edited a special issue on Vibration Serviceability of Civil Engineering Structures in the Vibration journal and is an Associate Editor for the ICE's Structures and BuildingsLink opens in a new window journal as well as a co-organiser of a vibration session at the IMAC conferenceLink opens in a new window in the USA. She has collaborated with a number of prestigious universities, such as Monash University (Australia), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Universities of Exeter, Loughborough and Newcastle (UK), Tongji University (China), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universidad de Oviedo (Spain), KU Leuven (Belgium), Harbin Institute of Technology (China), TU Delft (Netherlands) as well as industrial partners (e.g. Arup, TSP Projects, Pipex px, Network Rail and Jacobs).

PhD and postdoctoral positions

If you are interested in conducting research under the supervision of Prof. Živanović, you are invited to contact her to book a meeting for discussing a research topic and potential funding route. Ideally, you should prepare a written research proposalLink opens in a new window in advance of the meeting. It is expected that in this proposal you will demonstrate sufficient background knowledge in relation to the research challenge you plan to address as well as good research skills, both of which are extremely important for successful PhD studies.

If you are looking for a PhD scholarship, then you might want to consider applying for a joint Monash-Warwick scholarshipLink opens in a new window or Chancellor's International ScholarshipLink opens in a new window. If you are a Chinese national, there is an opportunity to apply for CSC-Warwick scholarshipLink opens in a new window. In addition, if you are a UK national, you are invited to check with Stana if there is any other scholarship opportunity at any given time. To make most of scholarship opportunities, you are invited to start preparing application about one year before the start date (that is usually, but not exclusively, at the end of month of September).

If you hold a PhD degree or you are close to completion, and you are interested in conducting post-doctoral research, feel free to contact Stana and discuss opportunities. Every year, there are competitions for post-doctoral fellowships (e.g. European funding schemes). Other funding opportunities (awarded research grants) may also exist.
