As part of the Summer School on Health Technology Assessments we are running a number of lunchtime seminars/ round tables. Details are below.

The lunchtime seminars are open to anyone but places are limited - if you wish to attend please register here.

“From Association to Causation”

Speaker: Dr Saverio Stranges, Scientific Director of the Department of Population Health at the Luxembourg Institute of Health

Aim: this will be an interactive session addressing the main criteria and issues in inferring causal associations in epidemiological studies.

“EIP on AHA monitoring tool for the early technology assessment of a planned device to predict falls in the elderly”

Speaker: Dr Christian BOEHLER, European Commission's Joint Research Centre and Dr. Leandro Pecchia, University of Warwick and Chairman of the HTA Division of the IFMBE.

Aim: this seminaries will introduce the EIP on AHA and the Joint Research Centre monitoring tool. A Case study on fall prediction in the elderly will be demonstrated.

“Early stage HTA: how to inform the research aiming to maximise its impact”

Speaker: Dr Leandro Pecchia, University of Warwick and Chairman of the HTA Division of the IFMBE.

Aim: In this lunch seminar will summarise the main messages of the Summer School. The main methods and tools presented during the School will be briefly recalled and the main problems of HTA of medical devices will be discussed. This will be an opportunity for those that will have no time to attend the whole school to see an overview of its main topics and more in general of the vibrant discussion that is growing very fast in the community of biomedical engineers and medical physicists about HTA.

“COST Actions: a look at Action TD1301, Microwave Medical (MiMed) devices”

Speaker: Dr Raquel Conceição, Chair of COST Action TD1301, Post-Doctoral Researcher University of Oxford

Aim: This seminar will describe the COSt actions in general and then will present the COST Action TD1301. Dr Conceição is a young Research Fellow and will also describe her experience as very younr Coordinator o a COST action. She will also discuss gender isses related to her experience. I am sure this talk will be an inspiration for many of us.
