Women in Engineering Scholars Programme

Encouraging gender diversity in Engineering

Applications are open until the end of October 2024

The Women in Engineering Scholars Programme will make its ninth round of awards to first year School of Engineering undergraduates in 2024-25. This programme was originally instigated by the generous support of two donors committed to addressing the shortage of female role models in engineering by supporting the most talented engineering students to develop their careers.

We are very proud to offer these scholarships to our first-year undergraduates.

Scholar SchemeWhat will successful scholars receive?

  • Financial assistance of £2,000 per year for each year of your course*
  • Extra support, advice, and mentoring within the University and from Warwick graduates
  • Opportunities for career development and other special events organised by School of Engineering and the Warwick Women in Engineering & Science Society will also enhance the Warwick experience

How will scholars be selected?

We anticipate that scholars will go on to be leading role models for women in engineering in their chosen field, and we have a responsibility to recruit the most committed students to the programme. Applications are open to students who are, at the time of the application, in the first year of their undergraduate Engineering degree at Warwick.

Scholars will be selected on the basis of, in order of priority: the information given in the supporting statement; outstanding track record of academic performance; and financial need.

The next round of applications will open on Wednesday 9th October 2024.

Want to get a head-start on your supporting statement? This will be your brief: "In no more than 500 words, please tell us why you should be selected as a Women in Engineering scholar (including reference to your A-Levels or equivalent qualifications, and Financial Status) and what you would contribute to the programme."

What would I be expected to contribute as a scholar?

This scholarship scheme is funded by the charitable donations of private individuals. As such, there is an expectation that Scholarship recipients will contribute to scholarship scheme progress reports provided by the University to the donors, and that they will attend formal events where there is an opportunity to thank the donors for their significant contributions to the scheme.

What if I am not eligible for this scholarship?

If you are not eligible for the WiE Scholars' Programme, we have a number of other scholarship and bursary schemes open to first year undergraduates. For details please check the Warwick student information pages or contact us if you are unsure how to find this information. If you hold another scholarship, it is not normally possible to hold this as well as a WiE scholarship. This can be checked and confirmed in the event that you are offered a WiE scholarship.

How will I be notified of the outcome of my application?

You will be notified of the outcome of your application by email. You will then be required to sign an agreement, including the need to produce an annual progress report and to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress.

* How will I receive the money?

As long as you continue to make progress in your academic studies, your award will be paid for each year of your course, subject to a maximum equivalent to 3 years full-time BEng study, and 4 years full-time MEng study. The WiE scholarship will be paid by the University directly into your bank account in termly instalments.

Please contact us at engadmissions at warwick dot ac dot uk for any further information about the scholarship.
