Courtney was born and brought up in South Africa and graduated in 2018

Courtney’s background and a bit about why she chose Warwick
“I was born, and grew up, in South Africa and moved to the UK with my family when I was 18 years old. I found out about the degree course through reading a university prospectus. I chose the course due to my interest in Biology, and because at the time I was intending to do a post-graduate degree in medicine. I chose Warwick for a number of reasons, primarily for their reputation and the location of the university.”

Courtney’s first impressions of Warwick
“I enjoyed my first few days/weeks at Warwick. It was very exciting starting university and meeting so many new people!”

What did Courtney like most about the University and her degree?
“In my opinion, the best thing about Warwick is the lecturers. I received a top-class education from lecturers who are leading researchers in their field, many of whom are also passionate teachers who genuinely care about their students’ education.”

What does Courtney feel she gained from her degree?
“In addition to the technical/scientific knowledge that I gained during my degree, I developed a lot of transferable skills which are now serving me well in my job (which is not science-related). I also made some wonderful friends, who I am still in contact with.”

What is Courtney doing now?
“I work in Corporate Tax Advisory for KPMG, one of the ‘Big 4’ professional services firms. I’m employed full time and working towards two professional qualifications (chartered accountancy and chartered tax advisory). Warwick helped me develop plenty of skills that have helped me succeed in my career so far.”

What else did Courtney do during her time at Warwick?
“Apart from the Biology Society, I dabbled in a bit of football, and some tennis, but most of my hobbies were pursued outside of the university. This is not for lack of options though – attending the societies and sports fairs every year was always good fun and there is plenty to choose from if you’re so inclined!”

What advice would Courtney give to prospective students?
“I loved my degree, and I can’t express how fantastic the lecturers on my course were. The quality of education you receive is phenomenal, and a degree from Warwick is highly regarded. I’m so happy that I chose Warwick as the place to continue my education.”
