Dr Afiniki Akanet

Seminar Synopsis

In this seminar we'll be joined by Warwick alumna Dr Afiniki Akanet, who is also a local Coventry GP. Dr Akanet will be sharing from her experiences as a Christian General Practitioner in the Covid-19 pandemic, and helping us to refocus after all we have been through. She will also be talking about her experiences as an international student many years ago and how she maintains resilience, empathy and happiness through the challenges.

Afiniki came to the UK from Nigeria on her own at the age of 16 and has written about some of her experiences in her books. She founded Forte Charity For Inspiration during her year out of medical school, because of her passion for helping others even outside of her medical practice.

GPs have seen a significant rise in mental health consultations during the pandemic, with social restrictions that have impacted everyone. We have all had to change and cancel plans in the past year, but some of us are still struggling to find the motivation to move forward and work differently after all that has happened. Thankfully, there is light at the end of the tunnel with our successful Covid-19 vaccination programme. Afiniki’s talk aims to inspire listeners to refocus and make the most of the opportunities that come their way in the days ahead.
